Local Citizens Advice Bureaux (CAB) will benefit, this year, from an additional payment of £10,000 from the District Council. This was announced by Cllr. Brian Robinson, Cabinet member for Efficient Council, at the recent meeting of the full Council, where the annual budget was discussed.
Cllr. Robinson emphasised that the money would come from the surplus of £57,000 in the existing budget, so would have no effect on the overall figures. There had previously been plans to reorganise the way the CAB received its funding, so £10,000 had been removed from its grant, in anticipation of this. However, as this process is still ongoing, the District Council didn’t hesitate to reinstate the money, in recognition of the work carried out by the charity.
Cllr. Robinson explained: ‘We know how much excellent work is done by the CAB in our District - this is the Council’s way of recognising it. The recession has placed additional demands on the CAB, so this payment will help it to cope with these. One of our priorities is to provide value for money services and we have demonstrated this by spending money in support of our community.’
