Licences and Street Trading

The Forest of Dean District Council is responsible for issuing a wide range of licences, permits and registrations related to premises, various occupations and activities. The majority of these are administered and enforced by the environmental protection and licensing team. Licences are issued for many reasons but usually they are intended to protect the public and to maintain appropriate standards of public safety and animal welfare and to prevent nuisance.

The Forest of Dean District Council follows strict guidelines before issuing licences, permits or registrations and can impose a range of conditions. If the premises are not suitable the licence application will be refused. The team regularly inspect premises to ensure that all the conditions attached to the licence or registration is being met and we investigate complaints including those concerning premises operating illegally without a licence.

Our officers are happy to give advice regarding the full range of licences issued by the council.
